Why I moved to Paraguay and built a site to talk about it

Hi, my name is Flávio. I'm Brazilian and I've lived in Paraguay since April 2025. The idea of living in Paraguay started around mid-September 2024, when — after talking with friends and acquaintances who had already lived there — I learned interesting things about the reality and cultural aspects that made me see Paraguay as a good place to live. That feeling was confirmed after two visits I made before deciding for good and arranging the move.

Basically, it was a matter of match. Paraguay has points that fit my lifestyle really well. In the countryside, where I live, it's a very calm place that feels like the Brazilian countryside from some years back. Paraguayans, in general, are discreet and very kind. They mind their own business — simple people and easy to get along with.

Oh, and about building this site: I've been a programmer for over 20 years, and we like doing these things, heh.

Safety, lower taxes, and being close to Brazil are also among the reasons that made me move here. But the goal here isn't to convince anyone to come, and much less to sell consulting to get paperwork done or anything like that.

My idea with this site is to share a bit of my experience living here — what it's like to be a remote developer in Paraguay, and day-to-day topics like running things locally, having a company, taxes, cost of living, and so on. These are usually what people ask me about Paraguay, and now I'll post them here so more people interested in the subject can find them.

And of course, talk about technology, programming, AI, and everything related to software development — something I really enjoy talking about, and here, for now, I don't have many people to talk to about it.

That's it for now. The idea is to keep posts short, unless a topic needs a more detailed explanation — the point is not to make for a tiring read. Over the next few days I'll be posting new content here. See you soon!
